About the Canton Mayor's Literacy Commission

The Mayor's Literacy Commission of Canton, Ohio, was founded in 1987 by the Mayor of Canton to advocate and support adult literacy efforts in the Greater Canton area and throughout Stark County. Since its inception, the Commission has been actively involved in addressing adult and family literacy needs and has proved a valuable resource for the community.

Membership is voluntary and includes professionals from business, industry, health care, legal and judicial, volunteers, educators and many others who feel strongly about helping Canton to become a more literate community.

We are an organization of volunteer community leaders dedicated to raising community awareness of the need for improved literacy, advocating for public and private support of literacy initiatives and identifying unmet literacy needs in the community.
